Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, and Lucy Liu Scratch One Another's Angelic Faces Off

November 1, 2000

What?! They beat one another up with chains?? Well, at least that's what one of the 157 rumours going around about the high-profile film, "Charlie's Angels" says. According to this particular rumour, the girls used one another as scratching posts to the point that they all had to wear turtlenecks. Various sources claim that there was so much animosity going on around the set among the Angels, ranging from trailer size to boob size, from who gets to play what to who gets top billing. Now here's the question: Is the saying, "All publicity is good publicity" applicable to this situation? Or is all the alleged nastiness going to turn these amazing Angels into nothing but dirty devils in the public's eyes?

In my personal opinion, people really don't give a damn. Men are going to see this film to gawk at Diaz', Barrymore's, and Liu's scantily clad physiques, and women are going to watch it to see some good girls kick some bad ass (Go, grrrl power, go!). Never mind all the juicy gossip and the publicity stunts (e.g. the declaration that Drew Barrymore and funnyman Tom Green have wed in Cleveland). It's an irresistible concept, really: a remake of the '70s hit that made its stars, well, stars. But this time around, the girls are edgier, sexier, and um, cattier (but then again, that's just rumour #3 out of the 157). Girls, girls, girls! We're all gorgeous, a'ight? Can we stop bickering now? You're gonna give me wrinkles!!

I have to give credit to the mere fact that this film was even finished, much less released. Check out the negative karma that surrounded this movie from conception to birth: There was no script pretty much throughout filming. Producer and Angel Barrymore had a hell of a time getting Diaz to agree to do the movie. No one wanted to direct it. No one wanted to play Lucy Liu's character, except for well, Lucy Liu.

As for the nasty, nasty rumours, the three girls fervently deny them, proclaiming that there's nothing but love and friendship among them, and that they're terribly hurt by all the false accusations. Just how do these horrible, descipable rumours start? Tsk-tsk. Shame on all those who spread such lies! If it's any consolation to the fallen Angels, though, the tabloid stories sure helped promote this film! Sure, it cost you your integrity, peace of mind, and reputation but wasn't it worth all the trouble? Okay, I'm kidding. Forgive me. See?? We're one, big happy family!! Now smile for the camera and maybe the rest of the world will believe it!

All kidding aside, thank goodness all the adversity was conquered and we're finally going to see this highly anticipated film. The famous Angels are going to be fearless, gunless (Barrymore's idea), and braless as they kick, slap, charm, and battle the bejesus out of the bad guys. And the audiences are, hopefully, going to enjoy every millisecond of it. If the controversy surrounding "Charlie's Angels" is any indication of its success, then it's safe to say that it's going to be one heavenly hit.
