  • The storyline was pretty good…not your average animated movie.
  • Those chickens had character! Talk about personality!

Turn-Offs:

  • The movie sometimes went at chicken pace…slow!
  • We thought it would be funnier…but the main underlying story was a bit on the serious side.

Because I heard that the movie was getting rave reviews.

initial expectations

The trailers jumped on the hype of M:I2, calling itself CR:1. That, along with fancy modern and yet primitive at the same time, stop animation, with some funny lines made me think that this was one hot movie.

Slow at times, but my attention was still piqued.

pace

I thought it would be end to end action. But there were a couple of slow parts throughout which had me almost looking at my watch. It picks up near the end, as most action movies usually do, to a wonderful climax.

Pretty darn good. I never knew chickens could be so interesting!

4

plot/story

I was actually surprised at the storyline. I went in expecting cartoony laugh-a-minute-type humour. Little did I know that there would be a more mature story behind all the animation, as the quest for freedom carried it through.

Great cast. I never knew chickens could act! Hee-hee!!

cast/acting

For inanimate objects made animate, the characters really shone through. I was able to discern feelings and emotions through the faces of these loveable chickens, which subsequently made me forget that they were nothing but clay. The voices of each character did a really good job. I do have to say that the stupid grins of the chickens started to bug me after a while. Too often, too much.

That was some heavy-duty clay animation. Thumbs and big toes up!!

cinematography

Advances in technology have enabled the primitive to look modern. I was really amazed at the quality of the animation, expecting some major choppiness as well as unrealistic movement. Not so. The sounds and soundtrack blended with realistic camera pans assists the high ranking.

Like I said, the animation contributed a lot to the wow factor. Peter Lord and Nick Park are one talented pair. Can you imagine what they could do with Playdo as kids?

4

the good stuff: like sex and violence

Other than the unique animation, not much else to report. The movie IS about chickens after all.

Disney movies are good. But they're not as intelligent as "Chicken Run."

This has to rank up there. A strong story, excellent animation, and a really likeable cast puts this in near the tops in its category.
