Me, Myself and Irene (2000)

The Long Review:

m: Hello, hello. We're back yet again to review another movie. We're gonna dissect Me, Myself and Irene right now. So, Guru Dudu, what did you think of Me, Myself and Irene?

d: My initial expectations? Well, I'm not really a fan of Jim Carrey, to tell you the truth. And I'm not really a particular fan of gross-out slapstick humour. So, I was just gonna wait for the video.

m: Well, seeing the previews, I really was curious because I wanted to see how Jim Carrey was gonna be. The last movie I saw him in was Man on the Moon and he wasn't the Jim Carrey that we usually in this film. I figured that Me, Myself and Irene, he was going to revert back to the typical Jim Carrey, contorting his face and twisting his body. And I also wanted to see Renee Zellweger do some comedy because in all her other movies that I've seen, like Jerry Maguire, The Bachelor and One True Thing, she was always weeping and tearing out her hair and getting her heart stomped on. So I thought it would be cool to see her do some slapstick. And that's exactly what we see in Me, Myself and Irene. Slapstick!

d: As I said, I'm not really a Jim Carrey Fan. I liked him in In Living Color, but I dunno…I guess it just grew old.

m: You think he goes overboard sometimes?

d: Yeah, I gotta give him props, though. I guess it's hard to do that kind of slapstick, physical type of comedy, but in this particular aspect, he actually pulled it off quite well.

m: So you liked his acting.

d: Yes, definitely. He really impressed me, basically. He played two characters and he had to make a distinction between both and there were times when both were on basically at the same time…literally, like when they were yapping back and forth and fighting each other.

m: Like that scene in the car?

d: The scene in the car. Exactly. That was a good scene.

m: I agree. And Jim Carrey was scaringly good at switching back and forth between Charlie and Hank. I wonder if he really has a split personality disorder??

d: Hehehe. For what it's worth, it is a pretty good piece. And like I said, what really made it happen for me was Jim Carrey's acting…because there was always basically something happening. So it had a good pace, too.

m: Well, we can look at it as, he is an entertainer, a comic, and his movies are his vehicles for acting up.

d: Good point. So…what's your rating on this overall?

m: I give it a 3. I think I would've been okay had I seen it as a matinee in a dinky theatre.

d: I have to agree with you. I'm with you on the 3.
