Quickie: Six guys get on a fishing
boat on a quest to make a decent living by catching lotsa fish.
To get the goods, they tread out further than usual in the Atlantic
Ocean. One problem though; three extreme weather phenomenons collide
to create hell on their return path, and they have to brave a "perfect
storm" to bring the goodies home. That's when things get a little
fishy. Based on a true story.
Turn-Ons:
- Lotsa action! You get a workout 'cuz your heart just keeps
on pumpin'!
- The added drama will make you all teary-eyed…as if there's not
enough water!
- Awesome special effects! The high seas almost made us land-lubbers
dizzy.
- Good acting from George Clooney and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio.
- There's good characterization. You really begin to feel for
those men and those who are waiting for them to come home safely.
Turn-Offs:
- You get too much water after a while…as in you get bored in
some parts, even though the action continues. It's too much of
the same thing, y'know?
- Diane Lane's character, Christina Cotter, the fiance of Bobby
Shatford played by Mark Wahlberg overacted at times. Kinda annoying!
- Some scenes were played out too long.

I was really expecting a lot from this movie, especially
since the trailers made it seem like a must-see. There's a
lot to be said about real-life drama. And I have a thing about
natural disasters…especially at sea! Having George Clooney
and Mark Wahlberg together, in one screen, all wet, didn't
hurt, either!

The simple vivid name, The Perfect Storm, in addition to
the special effects and true story foundation placed this
movie easily into the summer blockbuster category, garnering
a high initial expectation ranking.

|
The movie was packed with action and special effects, so
its pace was pretty good. But there were times when I felt
I was getting too much of the same thing. But I was never
bored for too long.

I found it just didn't flow as nicely as it could have. There
is no denying the storyline was exciting, however, some scenes
were played out a little too long for my liking.

|
The writers really did a good job of setting the audience
up for the real action. We learned about the characters and
their backgrounds first before we saw them fight that storm.
And we learned enough to be able to identify with those men.
Having the movie based on a true story really brought the
plot close to home.

The story was exciting but also very melodramatic. Sometimes,
it seemed as if the special effects were the story.
|
|
I saw some good acting in this movie. George Clooney and
Mark Wahlberg were particularly good.

For the most part, the characters were unconvincing and almost
artificial. Except for the two captains, George Clooney and
Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, whose motives came across loud
and clear, and empowered me to feel what he was feeling.

Awesome special effects…Step aside, Titanic! The effects
really depicted what a nightmare it must've been for those
men. Good camera angles, close-ups and zoom-outs were done
at the right places and at the right time. It made it seem
like you were right there, battling that monster of a storm.

For the most part, the cinematography is solid. But again,
the bulk of the movie IS the special effects, and its reliance
on such garners an average ranking.
|
|
The special effects did it for me. There wasn't much man-to-man
violence, but that storm sure beat up those men pretty badly.

Can we say scary? The tidal waves and other special effects
make Twister seem like a wuss! In theory, I always knew waves
like these exist; however, to see it live on the big screen...
well, I'm in awe of this particular force of nature.
|
|
This film definitely ranks up there with Jaws and Twister.
It did a good job of showcasing just how angry Mother Nature
can get.

Definitely better than average, despite the film's shortcomings.
